In 1949 some members of the ringers began preparation for confirmation under the guidance of the Rev Maitland T Dodds. The confirmation was made before the Bishop of Chichester in Westbourne Church on 3 May. These members then formed a local group of the Guild of St Richard. They met regularly for worship and St Richard’s prayer was always said:
Thanks be to you, my lord, Jesus Christ,
For all the benefits that you have given me;
For all the pains and insults you have borne for me. O, most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,May I know you more clearly;
Love you more dearly;
And follow you more nearly.
