Swaffham Summer Camp

Following the experience of the Kingley Vale and Sheepwash camping it was decided to hold a summer camp for the scouts and cubs. But where?

Scoutmaster Tony Ford in his job made deliveries to customers in the Midhurst area. One contact he had was a farmer who lived at Barnetts Mill Farm near Graffham who agreed to the use of one of his fields next to a pond. He transported all our equipment across the fields on a trailer hitched to a tractor.

Transport had to be arranged, extra tents were required and basic food supplies were organised. It was a long journey from Westbourne and for some it was their first time away from home. So there were a few tears, but all was forgotten during a memorable holiday. There were games, walks, singing traditional scout songs around large log fires and even for some a hike into Midhurst.
