Travelling east back through the square is where the village blacksmith lived. In my day it was Mr Goddard and is where Mr Ambrose the local butcher brought his horses to be shod. Occasionally I would bring Sandy who pulled the butchers cart delivery meat to outlying farms. In the winter, he had studs in his shoes to prevent slipping on iced roads.
