To the north of the village stands Stansted House, the former home of Earl Bessborough. In Spring the surrounding woods were carpeted with primroses. Bunches were picked to sell for a few pennies to neighbours. The woods were also a source of hazel trees for making bows and arrows. Playing cricket for Westbourne against the Earl's team on his front lawn was a highlight of the season.
